i have heard of it...a great sign/avatar maker in another forum uses that but from what i have seen its kinda difficult

Not bad.
I wish I could give GIMP tutorials but unfortunately I'm not too familiar with it.
Google search may help though, that's how I started out with photoshop, haha.
